2015 02 06

Trakai castle is one of the most visited tourist sites in Lithuania. It’s located approximately 28 kilometres from Vilnius. In the environment of medieval castles, variety of events, such as the day of ancient crafts or knight tournaments, and various concerts take place. Chamber music concerts are often held in Uzutrakis where neorenaissance style Count J. Tiskevicius' palace is surrounded by park, designed by French landscape architect E. Andre. During Middle Ages, Trakai was a multicultural settlement, now Karaites perceive Trakai as their homeland. At the end of XIV century the Crimean Tatars were brought to Trakai and settled here by Vytautas the Great. Trakai is a part of Trakai Historical National Park. Efforts are being made to preserve the authentic natural environment. Therefore, in addition to study tours, museums, trips by boats (yachts or a steam boat), swimming or diving, fishing, camping and visiting cafes, many consider walking in the city or just sitting by the lake also as relaxing and enjoyable. Don’t forget the most famous Karaite meal Kibinai, which is a must taste, as much as castle is a must see!
